State website is BIANYS.ORG.

This is a Support Group for individuals with brain injuries,
Traumatic brain injury (TBI), Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI ), and Caregivers in the
Newburgh, NY and the surrounding areas.
Veterans and spouses are welcome.

Social interaction is extremely important for people with brain injuries. A survivor is often unseen and unrecognized by the uninjured or uninvolved. When we speak about our deficits, a common reply is, “Oh, I have the same problems!". Socializing promotes inspiration, happiness, acceptance, competition, building relationships, and amazingly, strength. Our support groups are small, and we need to grow. Could the service coordinators help their clients with transportation to our support groups? Could survivors with many years of experience, come out and help? Could everyone get off the couch and do something?

Brain Injury Association of New York State
Support group meeting at Family Empowerment Council
At our meetings brain injury survivors/caregivers have the opportunity to support one another in a safe environment of compassion and understanding, where hardship and sentiments can be discussed openly with respect for each individual opinion and new friendship can be established.

We encourage members to discuss their individual needs and compensation strategies that have been successful, because it is from others who face similar frustrations that the best solutions to problems can be found.
